| New Mini-Moto Club
After much frustration with our present race club, and some of the other options out there, a friend of mine is starting his own AMA sanctioned Mini-Moto club/series. Should be run under AMA mini-moto rules as of now, subject to change though. Should be classes that include up to 125cc two stroke, and 175+cc four stroke, and an XR100 cup class that includes all four strokes up to 125cc. 17" wheels allowed, stock mini-frames. We have three dates secured at NHMS (Loudon NH) with probably one more to go. Club will be called the NEMM (New England Mini Moto). We will not be racing on the main track, we'll probably be setup in one of their huge parking lots, at this time I don't think the course will include dirt...so bring your slicks. For sure we already have Sunday May 31, and the Sunday after Laybor day. Entries fees should be resonable, and equipment allowance casual for the first season. If anyone is interested I'll post more info as it become available. JohnnyB |

NEMM ( New England Mini Moto) just put up a temporary site for the basics, schedule, rules, membership signup. http://www.nhf-racing.com/nemm/ Right now it's piggy-back on the NHF Racing site, but will have it's own domain shortly. Dates as of now are posted, as are some of the basic rules and classes. Membership is $35. I'll be at the May31 Loudon event. JohnnyB PS. These will be AMA sanctioned events so AMA membership is also required to actually race. |

We've been open two days and have 14 members already. One sponsor, and are working on group buys for 17" excel rims, sprockets etc. The guy who started the club is sharp, late 20's, motivated, former owner of a CCS 600 supersport team, a motard and vintage racer. Has the mysterious job of IBM "Unix Security Expert", he wanted to live in the middle of no-where in Maine....IBM ran a T-1 line to his house so he can work from there. I've sold my vintage stuff, bought an XR100 and CRF150...I'm itchin to race. JohnnyB |

It's shaping up really fast now. Five race dates secured, bike requirement solidified, hell the club even has a new box truck for equipment now. Feel free to contact me with any questions. I'm really jazzed about it, should be some fun, low budget, low risk racing. JohnnyB |

Requirement for AMA membership has been dropped. So...one less bill has to be paid to go racing with NEMM. JohnnyB |

First NEMM event was a blast. I'm learning a lot and there is a lot to learn. I'm freakin sore all over. Lots of racing...and three crashes ![]() Turnout was good, weather was decent...just an hour or so of rain to make things interesting. Will have some links to photos before long. Here's a video of some practice laps. My rig is the blue setup seen in the beginning, just a glimpse of me getting suited up. The guy doing the video is a better rider than me...but I crash in front of him (I have the red helmet, brown leathers)...when he hits me he screws up his brake line...which makes him crash again...and keeps pulling off the "track" to figure out what's going on. Just a HUGE amount of fun. Had about a dozen guys come over from Loudon LRRS with their play bikes, about four of them ended up legal for our classes and entered to race. You want to really learn to ride a bike and race on the cheap...no better way. JohnnyB YouTube - NEMM 2009 Round 1 at NHMS - practice 2 Someone embed this if they have the power. |

Thanks Barton, Here's the track. ![]() A guy that knows what he's doing. ![]() Turn one, XR100 Main on the start. (notice the guy cutting the corner...me). ![]() Our little jump. ![]() This type of racing will make you a better rider no matter what type of riding you do, and it's incredible fun. JohnnyB |

Ha, ha, ha.... good one. I can see it now. The pace bike crashes on the first lap and is subsequently run over by numerous little bikes. |

Here's my trophies from this weekend. They looked worse yesterday. The thigh bruise looked a lot like a footpeg before....and I know who's footpeg it was The elbow bruise was through thick Vanson elbow leather and kevlar armor....without the gear...either one probably would have been a trip to the hospital....gotta love race gear....turns things from stupid....to fun.JohnnyB ![]() |

Absolutely a blast. I've done all kinds of motorcycle riding, and road raced for 12 years, played in the dirt etc etc. This type of racing is the single best way to really really learn to ride a bike that I've ever seen. (usually we have some dirt and small jumps too). We were lapping this track in 19 -20 seconds...you have to really be on your toes, no time to day dream. 100% brake, turn as tight as you possibly can, 100% throttle, squeezy by with 12", run over the curb, through the grass, carry the rear wheel, slide the front and rear...you do it all. You buy a used bike for $1200-2000, build some 17" wheels, get some 125gp slicks or rain tires....and go racing. Here we see three different cornering styles in one picture. ![]() JohnnyB |

Looks like you guys are having a BLAST! SMRookie went out to Grange' in the CA high desert a couple of weeks ago and had the time of his life! I think I'm going to put some handguards and some Bridgestone BT-45's on my 150 and do the same. This looks like too much fun to pass up! |

Hasbeen.... We had some guys running BT-45's, they are perfect. They make them in 16" rear and 19" front right? If you have a 150...yeah, tires and handguards are all you need. Hand guards are a must, absolutely. They've save my hands and my levers half a dozen times in two races. I've got to get better gear though...the road race gear isn't cutting it anymore...I'm a crasher. Different parts of my body seem to be contacting the ground than ever did while road racing. Here's my round 2 bruise....goes from my ass to my nuts and is getting bigger each day....pee is a tad darker than I'm used to also. Hurts like a mofo when I get up after sitting...but in general tylenol is handling it and it's getting better every day. Should be fine for the race next month ![]() JohnnyB |
