| wiring / taillight guru's
I am contemplating putting a tail light with integrated blinkers on my wr250r so I don't have to worry about the blinkers sticking out while I'm trail riding. problem is they don't make one for my bike. The '02-'03 yamaha R1 tail light looks similar to mine so I'm thinking about putting one of those on (I'm not worried about making a bracket to bolt it to) My lack of knowledge with wiring brings me to this question, would the wiring aspect of it be the same hooking it to my bike since both bikes are Yamaha's and I already have an LED taillight? Thanks for any help. |

Matt, Beef gives good advice. Either way you slice it the wiring on the back of a bike (singals, running and brake lights) is very simple. I wouldn't be surprised if any board you can physically fit there can be wired properly. You will have to ditch the factory connectors and it won't be plug and play...but its very doable. Do you have access to a wiring diagram for your bike? |

Mr Mike has a really good pic-install guide for the 919 which MIGHT apply to your bike if you have two bulbs for turn signals. It won't be LED's, but it'll work. I notice in his writeup he uses the "hoppy tail" but you can get the trailer wiringing 4-3 setup from uhaul or an auto parts store and it does the same thing... Here's his link, it's just a little ways down from the top. Honda 919 ?(Mr Mike's Bikes)? -Adam |

Yamaha wiring should be the same across the board just like Honda except Yamaha uses different color codes for the wires. Yamaha: Black = ground Brown = +12v left blinker Green = +12v right blinker Blue = +12v tail light Yellow = +12v Brake light |

trying to get things figured out before riding season starts. After much contemplation I've decided I don't like the idea of the integrated blinkers just so people can see my blinkers better. I've ordered a fender eliminator and what I want to do when I wire it all in is put in some kind of quick connect/disconnect wire connector so I can unplug and unbolt everything for trail riding and at the race track. I read somewhere else that someone just used a trailer wire connector. just wondering what else might be out there like that that may work better or is that a good way to go?
