I would have the damaged area welded and either re-tap or insert a heilcoil.

It was nice to have finally talked by phone. Call anytime with questions.

Mike,
Starting to think it would be far more cost effective overall to just buy a bike like this one then apply my parts now for a near new bike.

Well, after looking at the cost, I decided to buy a better starter bike. Lucky enough to find this one in NC. Some parts have been taken off since buying it, but this gives a general idea of the condition.

Somehow along the way I ended up with this free bike. Got about 130 bucks in her and she is running pretty good. Just have to get a title for it now.

Simpson, you need to rent a warehouse!
I think that we just got hold of a '70 K1 Minitrail. At least it doesn't take up much space...

Good thread, I'll enjoy this one.

Ironically, my winter project is a SOHC drag bike, built from a low mile (7000) 74or75 CB750.

The one I have had $4000.00+ dumped into it, the owner off'ed himself, and I ended up with the bike, albeit without title.

Too many new parts to list, looks like you're covered on that end, if you come across something, let me know and I'll see if I can help.

Good project, best of luck to you!

You're probably more discerning than I am but that thing looks like all it needs is a Brillo pad and for somebody to kick start it,

Actually I have attablished a painter who paints this particular bike exclusively in VW. Should be mailing out the tank and covers to get painted tomorrow. This weekend I'll hopefully also break the bike down for powdercoat.

found a title recovery service to get me a title for the Intruder for a fee.

Does that Intruder have a 1.5 gallon tank or is that just an illusion.

Good News for me!

I found a title recovery service and they will charge me 250 clams to get a title. Together with the mech fixes it will be about 400 dollar bike. Originally it was meant to be my girl friends bike, but I see myself putting some miles on it. Should be ready in a couple weeks.

Status Report

CB750 half stripped...

Tanks and all parts getting ready to be painted Ruby Red are at the painters in WV.

Planning on powder coating the frame in 1-2 weeks.

While the frame is at the powder coat, I'll paint the engine.

You can see in the shot the over all discoloration and rust.

Pic #1. KO oil filter housing. The K1 had fins. I removed the fins on many a housing to look like the one pictured.
side note: If possible, use a OEM oil filter, some of the aftermarket ones could collapse. Careful not to loose the thin washer which resides between the spring and the filter.
Pic #2. Alternator cover. There a one or two locating dowel pins, be sure not to leave them out.

Pulling the motor is fairly easy. Hope you have a strong back when lifting it out of the frame. Be especially careful when removing the exhaust, don't want to snap those head bolts. You can leave the oil lines attached to the oil tank.

Hey, Mike, your right these things get big bucks. Mine will be better than average. Because I'm shooting for just under Vic World quality. The fella who ask 30k for his bikes. Here's an outdated list of items I've already bought and have on the NOS shelf. BTW might have to call you soon. I promise the build should start get interesting soon.

The tank, side covers, ears and filter are being painted by a guy who paints these CB750 (mostly K0) bikes exclusively. Therefore he understands the the step process of white to silver to red for the special Ruby Red color. Then will apply 4 layers of clear coat. I asked for dripping wet, deep gloss.

Just placed an order with Bikebandit for nearly 2/3 of all hardware on the bike for nuts and bolts. I'm talking Honda OEM in red tag bag stuff.

Plus I have a line on a guy in CA who reconditions the tach and speedo to near NOS condition. I simply trade my set in (core) and exchange money.

As much as I appreciate the original Phillips head screws, they are a PIA when trying to remove them. A impact driver is a must. I still have a bunch of them if to need any.

He will use a decal set and clear coat over. He explained the entire process to me. I forgot most. The tank will be boiled out and given a new liner for good measure. I've got a couple cracks in the covers. He said they would be cut out to stop the cracking and plastic welded.

The impact was a must on the CB360, probably have to pull it out of retirement for another mission. I've ordered all new replacement engine covers including valve cover head, alternator, transmission, and points. Still can't find a sprocket cover in the states. Might have to order one from a over seas UK parts dealer.

Forgot to mention: Examine the head gasket for oil leaks(common). It can be replaced fairly easy when the motor is out. Impossible when the motor is in the frame.
