Hey Simpson, the 750 motor does not like to be resting in that position. Get a milk crate and set it in there like it was mounted in the frame.

I took five minutes to strip the bottom of the engine. I'm on my 3rd can of shop size carb cleaner. The old chain oiler has coated everything with a thick nasty crust of dirt and old oil.

Yes that's my custom engine stand!

What procedure do you have for the valve cover and other oxidized parts? These parts had some type of plastic coating. I use to soak them in commercial carburetor cleaner, then glass bead blasting. Polishing was optional.

Remove and install NOS replacement.

That's why i dont mind having over spray on all of them.

After the 360, I learned nothing can look as good as the original finish.

Good find!
*A most important item for the NOS valve cover is the OIL SEAL P/N91256-096-651 for the tach drive.

* Also 8 new 'O' rings for the valve caps O-RING (30.8MM) 91302-001-020

Did you inspect the area between the head and the cylinders for trace signs of oil? Now is the time to replace the head gasket if need be.

Mike you are an extremely knowledgeable guy.

Always spot on!

Fortunately I was thinking ahead from learning on the CB360.

Those tach seals always leak!

All of the above parts are coming new from Bike bandit, including new tappet covers.

None that I could see. I ran it about an hour total with no visible leaks from anywhere on the bike.

Just a puff of intermittent smoke we talked about.

THe engine sounded real smooth.

Were there any tell tail signs of baked on oil? Sorry if I keep nagging, would hate to see you pull the motor sometime down the line.

Items keep popping into the memory. Do you have a multi 4 cylinder carb. sync. tool (monameter) with (4) 5 x 0.8mm adapters? A must have!!!

Wish I had sent you a picture before painting.. rats!
I "feel" pretty good about any oil leaks around the head.

No sync tool... Will need one soon. Ideas?

Rims are starting to look good with detail cleaning to the point I don't intend to get replacements or re-lace.

Carb tuner

It appears the low price mercury models made by MotionPro are no longer available. Hg(mercury is toxic). You might get lucky and find one otherwise the new MotionPro is one source. The best price was from bansheestuff.com

Another option is the Morgan Carbtune II. This is the one I use.

I was amazed to see the silver paint match perfectly to orignal when taking off the cylinder cover. The paint inside/around the cam chain is orignal and of course the outside is my paint job.

I'm enjoying watching this progress i have a 71 750 that came somewhat stock with the normal terrible wiring and crusty tank... the motor is almost back together, i have my fairings, and now i can't decide if i should update some suspension doo-dads or not... it's become far more of a streetfighter/rocket/bastardization than your immaculate restoration though! i'm impressed!

Look closely at the center photo lower right. The gear shift assembly to be exact. The Honda engineers had too much saki when this mechanism was designed. It is commonly referred to as a 'rube goldburg' Final test for wannabee CB750 mechanics was to correctly complete the re-assembly.

Just a little vintage trivia!
