Project CB360T - A quest for retro cool

Hey all,
Inspired by PHOBMAN, (my new hero) Linky I just brought home my 3rd edition to the stable. This 1975 CB360T was purchased for 75 dollars on Craigslist. Actually I gave him 80 bucks because I didn't have change. Thinking this project will move slow due to scope and costs. Looking forward to taking it on a JoMoCo run someday. Woohoo!!!!

A flurry of Ebay parts are raining down onto my house. Already have new seat cover, front fender, tach cable, rear rim, battery on way. About 10 bids are in que to be purchased including engine, tank, shocks and forks. I would rebuild but it appears buying much cheaper and effective. Heck, the motor I'm bidding on is now at 5 dollars and "seems" to get no interest from others.

It never ceases to amaze me how easy it is to get decent parts for the old Honda's. We are expecting your CB-360 in a future BOTM contest.

Show room stock configuration! This would be the blue, black and white in the picture, just far more shine! All original parts from bikes of matching years.

I have a original 1971 Honda CB350 shop manual. I'm sure a lot of information would apply to your CB360. Let me know if you would like to borrow it.

I have a 73 CB350(four) that is in the process of becoming a cafe. It would be done by now if I spent less time online.

Oh man... I don't remember how this thing goes back together!

Update from this weekend:
Everything is stripped down and ready for the sanding/painting. Having moments of "where the hell do all these parts go again???" and the garage is starting to look like a junk yard. I took lots of pictures and probably should have taken a ton more. Too late now! Why am I doing this again?

Anyhow, feel like I scored some good deals on Ebay. Here's some pictures of the parts. I'm certain they will not look nearly as good on arrival.

Parts bought and ordered:

Original Bike
Rear signal lights
Seat cover
Tach cable
Throttle cable
Complete front tire and rim with hub/braking
Complete rear rim with hub/braking
Rear shocks
Engine chain cover
kick stand
battery
Forks
Engine (5 bucks+95 shipping)
Right side A/F cover and tag

Total cost = About 483 bucks

Still in bidding process:

Tank
Plugs and coils
Chain
Plug wires
Clutch cable
Front fender
wiring harness
new bike to just ride and throw everything to curb...

Pictures of parts in bidding process

That looks like the predecessor to the old cb400t I used to ride. That bike was bullet proof.

The engine should be here this week, still tons to do... Air filters are heavily rusted. Not sure if I'll just buy new ones. Very happy with used parts purchased so far.

Did you rattle can the frame or is that a "professional" job? I was thinking of paodercoating the CB but think I am going to go the rattle can route for my first go-round.

I GOT A SPARK IN BOTH SPARK PLUGS!!!! WOOHOO!!!
It's 1:45am and I'm working on this bike sweating my ass off...
Could not get a spark for many reasons.

1. Not in neutral
2. Key in ignition not turned in right place
3. Battery not charged
4. points dirty
5. short in wire harness
6. I'm a dumbass

WOOHOO!!! It's alive and running strong...

I can't believe it but after all parts have been sitting for 10 years it's running. Starts right up easily, just needs a tune up now. Finding additional problems like an oil seal need to be replaced etc... No big deal. Put marvel mystery oil in the gas tank and crank, then it smoothed right out while rev/idle.

BTW -
I've decided to change this bike into a CL360. The CL360 is the scrambler version with a high side pipe, bigger seat and dirt bike handle bars. Parts are being ordered and researched now.

Congrats, so far it looks great!

I enjoy living vicariously through project builds like this with pics to track progress.

One day, when I build the addition to my garage (I wish), I'll be returning the favor.

Rear braking light and signals in place and working order. What a pain in the butt.

Thanks Mike! I really appreciate all the support. luckily and thankfully, all the wiring work is done. Just need to replace a blinker bulb and head light, although everything "seems" to be functional.

Coming this week...

Front fender - Just installed
Tires - ordered from local shop
chain
entire front braking system
engine gaskets/new cover for alternator side oil leak
relay blinker

Could use some advice adjusting the carb. I've never got that stuff right. It starts right up but idles little rough and high rpm rough also..

biding on new scrambler seat, luggage rack and few other items...

Pressing forward!

Wheels install, rear and front braking working with lights.

Have a number major issues still need fixing

1.) Tank has rusted really bad, now needs treatment. Ugghh
2.) Carb is not sync'd right or has low speed idle jet issues, or something else. Rip in diafram is not helping. Tried to fix with RTV. Needs investigation.
3.) Oil leak in left side strator cover, gaskets have been ordered
4.) Lost my bidding on ebay for luggage rack and new headlight while I was at work. GAWD! Work is totally getting the way of progress.

New seat has been shipped! Hope it fits...

The original pipes are starting to grow on me. I'll have to think about it more. Finding a good side pipe is rare and expensive. The more a polish the original, the more I like them. CL conversion is another endeavor down the road after I get some miles on it. I'm confused what I want from the bike the last day.

Off road tires:
I fully intend to take it off road.

Nice work, Simpson. Put some clip-ons, rear sets, and a racer seat on it.
