919 rear sets on a 599???

Anyone know if the 919 rear sets will fit a 599?

Anybody have a 599 and would be willing to take some simple measurements of the main bolts on center?

My experience with the 599 is limited to just a couple very brief rides on public roads (incredible handling for such a budget bike though!) so I am not that intimately familiar with it and never even bothered to look at the rear sets before.

I've also wondered if any other bikes rear set would measure up. I thought I heard a rumor once that a 900rr would work with a little clearancing, but have never had a bike to measure. Anybody know anything interesting??

So what gives Mike?

600 Hornet, Ohlins, rearsets?

Gunna pick on poor, unsuspecting 1000RR types? (and everyone elce for that matter)

Actually I am just trying to do some research for a customer to see if a set of 919 Sato rear sets will fit his 599.

I tell ya what though I wish I had one. That little 599 can embarrass some bigger bikes in the twisties... I don't think I would enjoy it too much on the track really, but just out in the canyons or backroads it's agile and hostile! Motor is so-so, but the chassis is stiffer than the 919 and thus is improved even if the overall experience is similar. The bike just loves to rail through turns as long as you ride it like a streetbike instead of a racebike.

Sorry, you are incorrect. While the rearsets are shaped differently and have a slight color variation, the hole spacing is exactly the same and they are interchangeable.

Here is the 919 rearset (top) in comparison with the 599 (bottom, mounted)

And just to further prove the point, here is the 919 rearset mounted to the 599

And there you have it. I see no reason why aftermarket resets designed for a 919 would not work fine on a 599.

Cool, but i think you need to check the shifter side just to be safe. Can't really see why it wouldn't be the same fit as the right side but you never know if the shifter is different or not!

It's the same, I tried bolting the 919 rearsets to the 599 early last year after G had dropped it, decided to just buff out the scratches on her rearsets and leave well enough alone though.

Good to know, I believe I've seen aftermarket 599 rearsets for far less than the Sato's!

There are lots of rear sets that are far less than the Sato's...

Sometimes you do get what you pay for.

It looks like the 919 rearsets will fit on the 599 but will the 599 rearsets fit on the 919? the 599's look like they bolt flush to a flat surface and the 919's are recessed into the bracket?

Hmmm, that would not work with the stock 599 rearsets because they have the mounting flanges connected with a bar making a triangle that fits on a flat bracket while the 919 rearsets have individual mounting tabs that fit into a cutout on the bracket (see pic in previous post). It would still seem that 919 aftermarket rearsets will fit a 599 without issue, if I'm understanding LDH's original question correctly.

Those are Rizoma rearsets right? can you measure the bolt spacing on the passenger peg bracket where it mounts to the main bracket for me? I have a set of the old original Rizoma rearsets but I don't have the passenger brackets and it looks like the "new" style will work.

Sure, in fact I'm not using my passenger brackets and would consider selling them to you. I'll check it out tonight and let you know.

I bow to your greater knowledge.....When i wanted to modify mine a few years ago i was talking to a dealer who assured me they were differant......I now think that he meant that the part numbers were not the same....so it wouldnt fit

I hear rearsets from a F4i will also fit with minor modifications, anybody know what the modification is?

Just curious cuz you can get ball bearing and adjustable F4i rearsets with brake switch for $200 on ebay...black....hmmmm

Now that may well be true. I'm comparing a 2002 919 to a 2004 599, the newer model 599 could be different.

2 7/8" on center. Let me know if you're interested in my passenger brackets, they're just collecting dust.
