Wish me luck

Well next Sunday I'll be taking off on the longest trip that I've done by bike. I know this is a cake walk for many of you but for me it is something I haven't done. I'll be making the journey on the 919 so a long distance touring bike it will not be (I'm sure I'll end up with one after this though...).

I'll be riding from PA to North Platte NE for a family reunion, each way is around 1500 miles. The trip there will be a relaxed 4 day affair and the trip back a 3 day job. I'm sure with a few exploratory miles thrown in the trip will total at least 3500 miles.

As far as the trip home I still have decided as to whether or not I'll head North out of NE to make the run through the badlands of the Dakota's, I guess it all kind of depends on what I feel I have time wise and how my ass is after so many hours in the saddle.

This should be fun and I'm really looking forward to it, I guess we'll just have to see.

Be safe and enjoy. Did you fix your loose seat?

If you'd like ... I have a H-D Gel/Memory Pad. It should be large enough to fit over you seat and hang slightly over the sides. It may just save your a$$ and prostate. If you want it, give me a call, text me your address, or I'll just drop it off in the city for you.

I haven't put the natural sheep skin cover on it, but the spandex cover works well.

Also, if you want my Givi V46 for the ride ... let me know.

Good luck Mark. One tank at a time and enjoy the scenery. Once you're dialed in you can rack up some serious miles. Don't forget the normal stuff like staying relaxed but alert, drink lots of water, and knowing your route.

And Dad says "Lube your chain."

That sounds like fun. Start with nearly new tires, a tire patch kit, fuses and a manual, I have used all on long trips. Minimize what you carry. Enjoy a great/safe trip!

Thanks Jim, staying relaxed will probably be my biggest thing. Water is well covered, picked up a new Camelbak for the trip

Definately not a race....can't carry across State lines so trusty blade, experience and a smattering of stupidity will hopefully be my armor.

Definately will Brian! Too bad you've elected to do something silly like a 5k the same time I'm leaving!

Brand new tires (Pilot Roads) of which I scrubbed in for 60 or so miles yesterday. Going to take some getting used to as the turn in is soooo different than the Pilot Powers I've been running for the last few years, much slower actually kind of lazy IMHO, so it will be a few miles before I'm really comfortable with them.

I have just about every emergancy item you can think of minus the fuses....good call, I need to pick some up.

If I did that you would have an extra 919 and a FJR that would stay with me!

Appreciate the offer Dave but I went the Spencer mod route and it seems that it will be reasonably comfortable, multiple mile comfort remains to be seen though.

Oh yeah, loose seat fixed long ago, stupid latching mech was sticking and with a seat not latching down triple digit blasts were an exciting endevour....especially when the seat starts sliding out from under your ass!

Awesome-o, Camelpak is a wise investment...you have to stop and pee a lot more than you would otherwise but on the bright side, you have a reason to stop
